In the past palliative care was associated mainly with patients who had cancer, now we recognise that palliative care is beneficial to everyone with a life-limiting illness. The principles of palliative care can be integrated into care anywhere; in the hospice, or in the community by hospice nurses, but also in other services including residential care facilities (rest homes and private hospitals) and in public hospitals.
At North Haven Hospice we are committed to increasing the capability and capacity of non-hospice staff to deliver palliative care in their care setting. For some this may mean helping them to keep up to date with new practices, for others it may be about increasing their palliative care knowledge base and skill set.
