Palliative Care Education Facilitator

North Haven Hospice, Whangarei, 0.5FTE (20 hours per week)

This exciting new role will be based at North Haven Hospice. The role will have two main objectives:

One:

To help build the capacity and capability of the generalist health and support services within the Whangarei and Kaipara area to enable them to respond better to palliative care need. This will be done through:

  1. Developing and maintaining education relationships with generalist palliative care providers within the designated area.
  2. Actively participating in the preparation of a palliative care education plan for Northland in collaboration with other education providers/facilitators
  3. Identifying education needs within the Whangarei/Kaipara areas and then facilitating/ preparing appropriate teaching sessions, delivering and evaluating these sessions.

Two:

To plan and co-ordinate the delivery of an internal education programme for members of the North Haven Hospice team.

This appointment would suit an experienced palliative nurse who has a thorough understanding of palliative care principles and philosophy. Ideally they would hold a minimum of a Post-Graduate Certificate in Palliative Nursing. They would be able to work closely with all members of the wider interdisciplinary team and the smaller North Haven team, have well developed communication skills (both oral and written). Some experience with adult teaching is preferred. A good working knowledge of computers and MS Suites would be advantageous.
