Family Support

The Family Support Service aims to provide a rich, varied programme.

Family meetings

A Family Meeting can be part of discharge from Hospice, but may also assist with settling disputes, planning a funeral or other topics identified by family/whanau.

Carers/Patients Days

These are held monthly at North Haven Hospice, and educate by providing speakers on relevant topics. They provide opportunity to meet other patients and their carers, and include a great lunch!

Family Support Reflections

The “Reflections” Service helps patients record their biography.

Support for children

This is important whether the child is ill or has a loved one who is dying. Support is organized on an individual basis by the counselling service. Because children are important a Bear Basket is kept at Hospice and all children are allowed to choose a stuffed toy from this to keep.

Family Support

Art

Art equipment is available to use as a diversion and can also be a useful way of expressing patient or family member's thoughts and feelings; this can be accessed both at Hospice and in the community.

Pamidronate Days

Some patients receiving this treatment choose a group setting with entertainment provided.
