Community Care

As most people want to be at home during this part of their life, most of our energy is concentrated on going to where people live, rather than getting them to come to us.

North Haven Hospice Services

North Haven Hospice serves the wide Whangarei area extending from Bland Bay in the North to Mangawhai Heads in the South. There is a commitment to providing a 24 hour a day phone contact and 7 day a week visiting service to this area (and that is no small feat). Someone is available day and night by phone and a nurse available to visit after hours if needed. The nurses work in teams to cover this area. Over 90% of the work done by North Haven Hospice is in the community.

The Community Team

There is no charge for the services of North Haven Hospice.

A large part of the Community Team’s work is spending time with the patient and family either face to face where they live or via the telephone. This nurse then works closely with the GP and other services, such as Oncology, to provide what is needed.

A Palliative Medical Specialist works with this team to review patients, and can see them as an outpatient at North Haven or at their home.
