At Hospice we work in partnership with patients and their family/whanau to support the best quality of life that is possible. Our clinical and social support teams work closely with a wide range of other community health practitioners and providers to ensure the delivery of specialised palliative care for our patients and their families/whanau, which embraces not only physical but also spiritual, cultural, emotional and social care.
Our specialist teams work closely with the Whangarei Hospital and the other hospices in Northland: Kaipara, Hospice Mid Northland and Far North Community Hospice.
Our hospice service area takes in the wider Whangarei area of Northland, extending from Bland Bay to the north, Mangawhai Heads to the south and Maungaturoto to the west. Most of our care is provided in the community and our doctors, community nurses and family support team travel within our service area to patients who are being cared for in their own homes or other care facilities.
Approximately 64% of our annual operational funding is covered by the Northland District Health Board, and the remaining shortfall is generated by our two Hospice shops, donations, bequests, fundraising events and grants. Our services are provided free of charge to our community.
