In-Patient Unit Volunteering


Assist nurses and healthcare assistants to provide care and support to patients and their families/whanau in our IPU. 

This includes patient care of listening and company; looking after meal selection/reheating and delivery; hospitality towards family/whanau visiting, some housekeeping (laundry and emergency bedroom preparation) company, walks/trips.

IPU Volunteer permanent shifts available

(weekly, fortnightly or monthly)

  • Tuesdays 12pm - 4pm
  • Wednesdays 12pm - 4pm and 4pm - 8pm
  • Fridays 12pm - 4pm
  • Saturdays (2nd and 4th of month) 8am - 12pm and 4pm - 8pm

Casual shifts available for above times as they become vacant.


Aged 16-plus, the ability to read and write, work under pressure and as specified by nurses. Be patient focused and open to personal growth. Any gender welcome.

Training you will receive:

Two 2-hour sessions with team trainer and four 4-hour shifts with team trainer. Within 12 months, mandatory essential skills training provided three times per year. A wide range of training and education opportunities are available.
