You can access North Haven care if you have been diagnosed with a life-limiting condition or terminal illness and live in the Whangārei District or south-east of Kaipara District including Mangawhai, Kaiwaka, Maungaturoto, Topuni and Oruawharo.
You can be any age.
If you think you or a family or whānau member may benefit from North Haven care, the best first step is to contact your GP or another health care professional already helping you as they will be able to start the North Haven Hospice referral process.
If you do not have a GP or are not under the care of an existing healthcare professional, you can refer yourself.
Please fill in the form below and one of our team members will be in touch.
If you have questions or need advice, please phone us on 09 437 3355 or email clinical@ northhavenhospice.org.nz .
We are a community charity and there is no charge for our service.
Referred to as our In-patient unit or IPU, this space is dedicated to, complex symptom management, respite care, and end-of-life care.
Whether you need a short stay to better manage symptoms or medication, or to give your carers some time to focus on other matters, our IPU is a compassionate and supportive environment designed to meet your needs.
Each private room at Te Whare Hūmārie has an ensuite bathroom, TV, and a balcony with views of the Paranui Valley. Our facility is more than just a place for medical care; it’s peaceful, comforting, and a space where you can feel at ease. Communal areas include a lounge and living room, a quiet room for reflection or spiritual contemplation, the Matai Room for family and whānau dining, a space for children, a small kitchen, and our beautiful gardens.
Te Whare Hūmārie is also our central administrative hub where our nurses, doctors and family support team are based. Administration, education, fundraising and volunteer management services as part of our charity are also located here. We hold training, workshops, small events and meetings in the downstairs Kauri Room for our teams and community groups.
North Haven Hospice understands the importance of spending time with your loved ones. We welcome family and friends with flexible visiting hours and have two adjoining rooms for family and whānau as required. Children are welcome, and we have a small selection of toys, DVDs, and games to keep them entertained. Well-behaved pets can also visit, provided arrangements are made in advance with our team.
Daily menus are professionally tailored to your dietary needs and preferences. Family and whānau are encouraged to bring in any favourite foods or drinks, which can be stored in the Matai Room kitchen.
We work closely with your GP, district nurses, and other healthcare services to ensure you receive comprehensive care.
North Haven Hospice is so much more than dying. We are here to wrap a cloak of care services around you and your family. We put the dying in charge of their living, and our Family Support team is here to address your emotional and spiritual needs, providing both personal advice and practical help. North Haven Hospice will continue to support your family and whānau after your death, so they are cared for during their grief.
