That's exactly what local organisations are discovering as they get involved in North Haven Hospice's A Taste to Remember campaign.
Running from 22 June to 17 July, A Taste to Remember encourages people to gather around food, share the stories behind the dishes that matter to them, and raise funds for North Haven Hospice.
Among those leading the way are Henderson Reeves Lawyers and The Falls Estate Lifestyle Village, each hosting their own Taste to Remember events.
For Henderson Reeves Lawyers, the campaign is creating an opportunity to bring staff together across their Whangārei and Auckland offices. Team members are making a dish that holds special significance and sharing the stories and memories behind it.
Some recipes may have been passed down through generations. Others may remind people of a special occasion, a loved one, or a moment in their lives that has stayed with them.
While sharing food and stories together, staff are not only fundraising for hospice care, but also learning more about the people they work alongside every day – bringing people together for a great cause!
At The Falls Estate Lifestyle Village, residents were quick to embrace the idea and very excited to host their own special event.
Their goal was to ‘go big’ by hosting their own special two-course luncheon for A Taste to Remember, celebrate memories, enjoy good food, and support a cause close to many hearts.
Like so many of the best community events, it's about much more than what's on the menu. It's about sharing experiences, remembering loved ones, and creating meaningful connections with those around us.
Together, these two groups show that there is no one way to participate in A Taste to Remember.
Your event could be a workplace morning tea, a shared lunch with friends, a bake sale, a community gathering, a club dinner, or a special event like those being hosted by Henderson Reeves and The Falls Estate.
What matters most is the opportunity to gather, share memories, and support local hospice care.
Every dollar raised helps North Haven Hospice continue providing end of life care to the dying and their whānau throughout our community. These services are provided free of charge and made possible through the generosity of supporters and fundraisers like A Taste to Remember.
As Henderson Reeves and The Falls Estate have shown, some of the most meaningful fundraising events start with something simple: a recipe, a story, and a willingness to share both.
From 22 June to 17 July, we invite workplaces, community groups, clubs, schools, retirement villages, and organisations across Northland to host their own A Taste to Remember event.
Gather your people, share your memories, raise money, and help ensure North Haven Hospice can continue caring for local families when they need it most.

My husband Adam was diagnosed with a rare bile duct cancer, in June. He had a major liver operation, removing three quarters of it and for a while, things looked hopeful. But a year later, the cancer returned to his stomach lining. This is our story.
