Want to Help North Haven Hospice?

North Haven Hospice receives generous donations from individuals, groups, and organisations across the communities we serve. Without your support, we couldn’t provide the emotional and practical support that helps both people we look after and their caregivers, nor could we reach people at home in isolated areas to provide support and medication.

Grants make up about 1% of our income. We’re grateful to partners like Oxford Sports Trust, Harcourts Foundation, Pub Charity, and others. Some foundations exclude us due to government funding, but every successful application helps.

💵 Donate in Dollars, Goods, or Time

Our small fundraising team (less than two full-time staff!) generates around 4% of our income through newsletters, our annual Memory Trees,“500 for 5” donors, grants, sponsorships, and general donations.

Did you know? You can claim a tax rebate for any donation over $5!

Your support helps us care for people (at no cost to them) who are homeless, isolated, or without family—giving them dignity, aroha, and peace in their final days.

🧾 Payroll Giving

Set up donations directly from your pay and receive an immediate tax credit—up to a third back each time! Ask your payroll team if this is an option at your workplace.

🧡 Leave a Gift in Your Will

Bequests made up 4% of donations last year. These gifts—ranging from hundreds to thousands—help us continue our work long after someone’s estate is settled. You can now create a free will online via our donation page.

🛍️ Donate Unwanted Items

With over 300 volunteers, our shops are vibrant community hubs. From sorting and pricing to merchandising and customer service, every item donated helps fund our care.

🛒 Shop ’Til You Drop

Our four op shops contributed 33% of total funds raised last year! Visit us in:

Who doesn’t love op-shopping?

🎄 Host or Help at an Event

Our Memory Trees remain a cherished tradition in the first two weeks of December every year. Visit us this year at:

  • New World Regent
  • Pak’ N Save Whangārei
  • Mitre 10 Whangārei
  • Whangārei Central Library

Write a message to a loved one no longer with us on a heart or star and hang it on our tree - or take it home for your own tree.

We also love the generosity shown with our community-led events.  Some amazing people give their energy and commitment to these events:

  • Hospice House Tours by Giving for Good Whangārei ($73,000 raised in 2024!)
  • Gallop for Good Race Day by Harcourts Whangārei and Bream Bay
  • Tree of Remembrance by Farmers Whangārei ($7,000 raised in 2024)
  • And coming up is the WRMK “A Perfect Match”—a food and beverage pairing event with auctions!

🤝 Sponsor Us

Business sponsorships make a big impact, though they currently account for less than 4% of donations. Some of our standout supporters include:

  • CDL Group
  • Harcourts Whangārei & Bream Bay
  • Ecosse Business Systems
  • Craigs Investment Partners
  • Henwood Electrical
  • NZME

We also receive in-kind donations like magazines, flowers, baking, and even proceeds from cattle sales!

All Funds Raised Stay Local

Every dollar raised in our community stays in our community. North Haven Hospice was founded by people who wanted to do better—for those dying and those caring for them.

In the words of Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the modern hospice movement:

“You matter because you are who you are. And you matter until the very last moment of your life.”
